INVOLVEMENT OF OLD STUDENTS ASSOCIATION IN THE SCHOOL LIFE

In the history of forming Old Students Association, Iwo Grammar School Old Students Association was formed 2 years after the first set graduated and it has continued to wax stronger up till today.

The formation came into being in 1971 with only 4 members.

The old Students Association has played a significant role in making the school what it is today. For example in 1971, the Old Students roles to the moral decadence and professional ineptitude of some members of staff then and deteriorated relationship between teachers and students. Dangers were averted.

1974 Old Students participated in the tenth founder's day celebrations in organizing quiz competition, symposia and career talk for the students.

Between 1975 and 1982, holiday coaching for the students was organized for the students. Lectures, quiz contests programmes were intensified on yearly basis.

In 1982, the old students assisted in getting qualified graduate teachers to the school which enhanced good academic performance of students and the WAEC results that year was highly impressive.

The years 1984 - 1989 were full of activities for the old students association both individually and collectively. The association made sure that qualified and adequate teachers were posted to the school to raise academic excellence.

Annual lecture, career talk e.t.c. continued to feature regularly.

Sporting equipments were bought for the school to motivate the students to excel in sport.

Sinking of wells at different locations in the school premises in order to combat the outbreak of cholera was done by the body, all wells sunk were well fenced by the Old Students Association, organizing a week long programme for the 25th Silver Jubilee Celebration.

Academic excellence were rewarded to the students through donations of various prizes in various subjects.

The years 1990 - 1998 also witnessed tremendous contribution of Old Students in the furthering efforts in getting qualified teachers for the school, in promoting sporting activities through sponsoring annual inter house sports competition and in beautifying of school premises.

And let me add that at 50 years of the existence of Iwo Grammar School, the products of the school are found in all existing professions in Nigeria as qualified professional in their respective areas of call.

Iwo Grammar School has produced eminent scholars who are part of nation builders.

If Iwo Grammar School should be ranked among existing secondary schools in Nigeria within limit of its existence, the school has unequalled achievements.
